What is Hezbollah, the Lebanese group trading fire with Israel?

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, has been exchanging fire with Israel since Oct. 7, following the Gaza conflict’s outbreak. Formed in 1982 by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Hezbollah retains significant military power. It supports Palestinian groups and has a major political role in Lebanon. Western and Sunni Arab nations label it a terrorist organization.
