Chicago-area school official sentenced for $1.5 million chicken wings theft during pandemic

Vera Liddell, ex-food service director for Harvey School District 152, was sentenced to nine years in prison for embezzling $1.5 million worth of chicken wings. Liddell admitted to diverting hundreds of unauthorized orders during the COVID-19 pandemic. The scam was uncovered in early 2022 during a budget audit. Defensive tackle Chris Jones’s offer to pay restitution remains unconfirmed.
