After Wayanad landslides, a call to regulate tourist inflow to Ghats sites

As per govt. figures, based on hotel occupancy, 54 lakh tourists visited Wayanad and Idukki in 2023. This is apart from the ‘day tourists’ who do not stay overnight. Tourism stakeholders say that the number of tourists in these fragile areas far exceed the carrying capacity of these sites.
