‘Bees starving’ in dismal year for French honey

French beekeepers reported a catastrophic year for honey production due to adverse weather conditions. Mickael Isambert, a beekeeper in central France, faced an 80% drop in honey yield, having to feed his bees with sugar. Low temperatures and heavy rainfall limited bees’ ability to collect pollen and nectar, leading to colony starvation and significant losses nationwide.
